Second Half Surge Lead Titans to Win Over UW-Stevens Point

IWU scored two goals in a 2:32 span in the second half

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team scored two second half goals to take a 2-0 victory at UW-Stevens Point, Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28. The Titans improve their record to 5-4-0 on the season and currently have a four-game winning streak.

After a scoreless first half, IWU got on the board with junior Cameron Hindel (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia HS) scoring in the 67th minute, with sophomore Caelyn Steffens (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) getting credit for the assist. Just two minutes later, sophomore Heather Dietrich (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo HS) put in her first goal of the season off another assist by Steffens.

Hindel tallied four shots while Steffens and freshman Lauren Shanks (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) added three shots of their own. Sophomore Maria Fields (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East HS) led IWU to their second consecutive shutout, saving three Stevens Point shots. The Titans held a 15 to 8 shot advantage, with an 8 to 3 difference for shots on goal in IWU's favor.

The women's soccer team is back in action for their first CCIW game of the season at Wheaton, which set for kickoff at 4:30 p.m, Friday, Oct. 4.
