Titans Tripped Up in CCIW Opener at No. 8/9 Wheaton

Maria Fields recorded a career-high 12 saves

WHEATON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team's upset bid came up short at No. 8/9 Wheaton College Friday evening, Oct. 4. The Titans weathered 17 WC shots, but an own goal in the 29th minute proved to be the difference as IWU fell, 1-nil.

Sophomore Maria Fields (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East HS) made a career-best 12 saves in the setback. Fields dozen saves tie for the third-most in IWU history, and rank as the most by a Titan since Nov. 18, 2013 when Zoie Samaan recorded 12 against Trinity (Texas).

Illinois Wesleyan returns to action at home Wednesday night, Oct. 9, when the Titans host North Central College at Neis Field. The CCIW match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
