BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team begins the 2019 season out west this weekend, as the Titans tangle with the University of Redlands Friday, Aug. 30, before squaring off against Claremont Mudds-Scripps Colleges Saturday, Aug. 31.
Second-year head coach Tony Dulak's squad features several key returners alongside a strong incoming class that provide the Titans with solid depth. Flower Edington (Wilmette, Ill.-New Trier Township HS), the 2018 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Offensive Player of the Year, returns for a senior season after leading IWU in goals (10), assists (11), and points (31) in 2018.Â
Defensively, Illinois Wesleyan brings back veteran goalkeeper Kelli McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.-Cathedral Catholic HS), as well as All-CCIW and United Soccer Coaches All-Region pick Ellie Crabtree (Springfield, Ill.-Edwardsville HS). McCarthy started all 21 games for the Titans last season, making 78 saves and posting a 1.02 goals against average. Meanwhile, Crabtree anchored the backline and added two goals and four assists offensively.
IWU's season opener against Redlands is slated for 7 p.m. PT Friday night, Aug. 30. The Titans wrap up the weekend in Claremont, Calif. with a 7 p.m. PT match Saturday, Aug. 31. Links for live stats and live stream can be found by clicking here.
