2019 CCIW Baseball Tournament Website

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The tournament's No. 4-seeded Illinois Wesleyan baseball team split two games on the first day of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tourney, topping Wheaton College 4-3 in 10 innings before losing to No. 1 seed North Central, 14-6, on Thursday, May 9, at Zimmerman Stadium in Naperville, Ill.

The Titans (22-18) will play next at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 10, at Lee Pfund Stadium in Carol Stream, Ill., against the winner of an earlier game between Augustana and either Wheaton or North Park. Go here for links to live stats and live video.

Game one went 10 innings before the Titans loaded the bases with one out and junior third baseman Dalton Fletcher was hit by a pitch to bring home junior centerfielder Nick Figus, who led off the inning with a single for one of his three hits in the game. Senior leftfielder John Bosco also had three hits and an RBI in a 12-hit IWU offense.
Starting pitcher Nick Brune scattered seven hits and struck out seven against Wheaton (24-15) and senior Jacob Houghton (2-0) came in to earn the win with two scoreless, one-hit innings.

In the second game, the Titans outhit North Central 13-10, but were bitten by two big innings, allowing five runs in the first and five more in the seventh.
Figus collected three more hits and drove in three runs while Fletcher, Bosco and senior catcher Seth Palmby each had two hits.
The first of five IWU hurlers, Houghton (2-1) opened the second game and took the loss, going just 1/3 of an inning and allowing five runs on three hits with two walks and two wild pitches.
