BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team split a doubleheader with College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin-opponent Carthage College on Saturday, May 4 at Horenberger Field in Bloomington, Ill. Illinois Wesleyan won the first game, 6-2, and Carthage took the nightcap by a 6-0 margin.
Illinois Wesleyan is now 21-17 overall and 14-10 in the CCIW. Carthage's season ends with an 18-22 ledger and an 8-16 CCIW mark.
In the opener,
Quinn Gudaitis (6-1) pitched a complete game for the Titans and limited the Red Men to a pair of runs, one earned, on seven hits, two walks and 11 strikeouts.
With the first game tied at 2-2 in the eighth,
Dalton Fletcher and
Ben Manski were walked.
John Bosco bunted and reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. The Titans then went station-to-station as the next four hitters reached base to knock in one run each -
Stephen Billington with a walk and
Seth Palmby,
Nick Figus and
Brandon Skopick with consecutive singles to give IWU a 6-2 lead to close out the scoring.
In game two, the Titans were limited to nine hits in being shutout for only the second time this season and for the first time since losing 6-0 at Washington U. on March 23.

Illinois Wesleyan will be one of the six teams in the CCIW postseason tournament at Naperville, Ill., beginning on Thursday, May 9. Who the Titans play and when are yet to be determined until other teams complete their conference seasons.
