Four Hurlers Combine on Four-Hit Shutout as Titans Blank Red Men, 4-0

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Eric Bennes, Dan Trudeau, Casey Becker and Eric Kozlowski combined on a four-hit shutout in a 4-0 Illinois Wesleyan baseball win over visiting Carthage College on Friday, May 3, at Horenberger Field.

The Titans improved to 20-16 overall and are 13-9 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin as the Red Men fall to 17-21 overall and 7-15 in CCIW action. The same two teams square off in a doubleheader at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, also at Horenberger Field.

Illinois Wesleyan scored three time in the first inning, collecting their runs on singles from junior second basman Brandon Skopick and junior first baseman Garrett Shea, walks to junior centerfielder Nick Figus and freshman rightfielder Evan Ranneklev (with the bases loaded), and an infield throwing error.  Illinois Wesleyan made it a 4-0 game in the sixth on an RBI-single by catcher Seth Palmby to close put the scoring.

Bennes (3-2) was the winning pitcher, as he blanked the Red Men on four hits, three walks and two strikeouts over six innings. The Red Men got no hits over the final three innings against the IWU relievers and Kozlowski struck out the side in the ninth.
