ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Freshman
Madie Monk pitched 5 2/3 innings of scoreless ball to help the Illinois Wesleyan softball team to a 1-0 win over Carthage College and a split of the doubleheader on Wednesday, May 1, in games played at the Rosemont Dome in Rosemont, Ill.
Illinois Wesleyan (30-7) lost the first game by an 8-0 score and finishes with a 15-1 record in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play. This is IWU's eighth straight season with 30 or more wins and 18th time in the last 20 years.
Carthage is 24-12 and finished 10-6 in the CCIW, earning the No. 2 seed in the
postseason tournament, which will begin on Friday, May 3, with all games at the IWU Field.
No. 3 seed North Central plays Carthage at 11 a.m. on Friday, followed by No. 1-seed Illinois Wesleyan against No. 4-seed Wheaton. The entire tournament schedule is:

In game one, the Titans were shutout for only the second time this season and were limited to a season-low two hits - a single by
Kara Bischoff and a
Colleen Palczynski double.
Monk (1-1) allowed seven hits, one walk and struck out one in game two as junior
Ally Wiegand came in for the final four outs to get her fourth save. The Titans, who got six hits in game two, scored the only run of the contest in the bottom of the first when senior
Jillian Runyon singled, stole second, went to third on a
Mia Massaro sacrifice bunt, and came home when Palczynski singled up the middle.
