IWU Softball Claims Outright CCIW Title With Pair of Wins Over Carroll

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Illinois Wesleyan clinched its 16th College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) softball title in program history by winning games over Carroll by scores of 3-0 and 7-6 in 11 innings on Sunday, April 28, at IWU Softball Field.

The Titans (29-6 overall, 14-0 CCIW) will be the No. 1 seed and host the 2019 CCIW Softball Tournament scheduled for May 3-4.
The conference tournament winner will earn the CCIW's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship as the full tournament field will be announced at 1 p.m. EST on Monday, May 6 via an NCAA.com Selection Show.

This was the second-straight conference regular season title under head coach Tiffany Prager as Illinois Wesleyan advanced all the way to national title game against champion Virginia Wesleyan last season.

The Titans have won the most CCIW softball titles in conference history, which includes 1991, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019.
Additionally, Illinois Wesleyan is a 13-time CCIW Tournament champion (1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018).

In game one, junior Ally Wiegand (17-2) allowed her first and only hit, a double, after 6 1/3 innings of no-hit pitching. She struck out eight and walked none.
IWU was limited to just three singles in the opener, two from senior centerfielder Jillian Runyon, who had four stolen bases and scored all three Titan runs.

Junior Brea Walker (12-3) went all 11 innings in winning game two, scattering 15 hits while allowing three earned runs and striking out three.
The Titans won the game in the bottom of the 11th when Brittany Murphy doubled to left-center field to score Nicki Lewis, who had reached on an infield single and went to second on a Hayley Earl sacrifice bunt.
Sam Berghoff had two doubles and three RBI.
