BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Junior centerfielder
Nick Figus ripped a seventh inning double to score two runs and break a 1-1 tie as the Illinois Wesleyan baseball team went on to a 6-4 win over visiting Elmhurst College on Friday, April 26, at Horenberger Field.
The Titans are 16-15 overall and 9-8 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Bluejays are 9-22 overall and 3-14 in conference play.
With the game tied at 1-1 and one away in the bottom of the seventh, senior leftfielder
John Bosco walked and senior shortstop
Stephen Billington singled to third base ahead of Figus's double that chased home both runners.
Illinois Wesleyan took advantage of two Elmhurst errors in the eighth inning to plate three unearned runs and enlarge the lead to 6-1.Â
Billington, senior designated hitter
Ben Manski and junior second baseman
Brandon Skopick each had two of IWU's 10 hits.
Junior lefty
Rory Mulvihill (1-1) got one batter out in the seventh and collected the pitching decision. Senior
Jacob Houghton got the save, his first of the season, by pitching the final two innings.
What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan and Elmhurst will play a doubleheader on Sunday ... somewhere. The games are slated to start at 1 p.m. at Elmhurst's Butterfield Park. But with a forecast of snow in the Chicago area this weekend, the twin-bill may be moved to Bloomington. Check Facebook or Twitter to find out.
