BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan clinched at least a share of its third College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) men's lacrosse title with a 22-6 win at home over Augustana Wednesday evening, April 24.
With their ninth straight win, the Titans are 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the CCIW. Augustana is 8-8 overall and 3-2 against the league.
Head coach
Zach Iannucci has led the program to three CCIW regular season titles and two-straight CCIW Tournament titles during the five-year history of the program.
Senior
Bailey Marth led the Titans offensively with six goals and three assists while freshman
Rick Smith and senior
Will Rossi each scored four goals.
Cole Harden and
Ty Collins each had two goals as the Titans outshot the Vikings, 63-36, and had a 44-25 edge in shots on goal.
Illinois Wesleyan won 27 of 32 faceoffs with senior
J.C. Grabarek getting 11 of 13 and
Max Bousky claiming 16 of 19.
Benigno Houser made 19 saves in 60 minutes in goal.
What's Next?
The Titans can win the outright title with a win at Carroll on Saturday, April 27 ... Illinois Wesleyan will host a CCIW Tournament semifinal matchup on Wednesday, May 1 at a time to be determined. Wednesday's semifinal winners will move onto the tournament final on Saturday, May 4, with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.
This will be the first year the CCIW will have an automatic qualifier (AQ) to the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship. Illinois Wesleyan qualified as a Pool B team in 2017 and 2018, which is reserved for institutions not affiliated with a conference or affiliated with a conference that does not have an AQ.
