BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Freshman rightfielder
Evan Ranneklev delivered a one-out double in the bottom of the ninth to send home the winning run in a 6-5 win by the Illinois Wesleyan baseball team over Augustana College on Wednesday, April 24, at Horenberger Field.
The Titans are 15-15 overall and 8-8 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings have lost four in a row and are now 22-9-1 overall and 11-5 in the league.
With one out in the ninth, junior first baseman
Garrett Shea, who finished with four of the Titans' 13 hits, doubled to deep centerfield and was run for by junior
Jeran Simpson. Ranneklev then sent the game-winning hit sailing to deep left field to score Simpson.
Senior
John Bosco had two hits and junior third baseman
Dalton Fletcher provided three singles and scored a run.
Quinn Gudaitis (5-1), the fifth Titan pitcher of the afternoon, got the pitching victory as he came in to register the final out of an Augustana three-run uprising in the ninth inning that tied the game at 5-5.
Senior
Nick Brune went the first seven innings on the hill, allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
