IWU Baseball Loses Two One-Run CCIW Games at Augustana

MOLINE, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team lost the opener, 6-5, and fell in game two, 4-3, in 12 innings in a doubleheader against Augustana College at Swanson Stadium/Brunner Field in Moline, Ill., on Tuesday, April 2.

IWU now has a 9-11 overall record and a mark of 2-4 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings sport a 15-5-1 overall mark and are 5-1 in the CCIW.

In the first game, Illinois Wesleyan had a 5-1 lead heading into the last of the seventh before surrendering two in the seventh and three more in the eighth. Sophomore reliever Hunter Simon (1-2) took the loss, allowing three runs in 1 1/3 innings on two hits with a walk and a wild pitch. The game had six walks and six hit batters.

The Titans banged out 10 hits, all singles, compared to eight for Augie with junior centerfielder Nick Figus and junior third baseman Dalton Fletcher getting two each. In addition to Figus and Fletcher, senior leftfielder John Bosco, senior shortstop Stephen Billington and junior second baseman Jeran Simpson all provided runs batted in.

In game two, IWU rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game with three in the seventh. Freshman leftfielder Evan Ranneklev led off with a home run and back-to-back doubles by Fletcher and freshman centerfielder Dom DiLello accounted for the other runs with DiLello, who had three of IWU's eight hits, getting the two RBI.

Junior Braden Miller (0-1), the sixth Titan pitcher in game two, went the final 5 1/3 innings and allowed only one run on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
