Earl's Grand Slam Helps Titans Gain Split at Wis.-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The No. 4-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team got a grand slam home run from freshman catcher Hayley Earl to earn a 6-1 win in game two and a split of a doubleheader at Wisconsin-Whitewater on Tuesday, April 16.
 
The Titans, who lost the first game by a 3-2 score, are 21-6 overall while the Warhawks are now 17-9.
 
Junior second baseman Shelby Fulk had two of the Titans' six hits in game one and provided an RBI with a fifth inning single. Senior third baseman Julie Josten had a sixth inning double that scored Earl.
 
Junior Brea Walker (9-3) allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings, striking out five and walking one with five hits allowed.
 
IWU got a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo homer by freshman first baseman Colleen Palczynski and Earl's bases-loaded smash came in a five-run fifth inning. Fulk and Josten each had two hits in an eight-hit Titan attack and third baseman Mia Massaro had the other run batted in with a bases-loaded walk.
 
Junior Ally Wiegand (12-2) struck out 14 and scattered six hits with only one run allowed.
 
What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan returns to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play on Friday, April 19, with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at North Park University in Chicago.
