BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team got 30 hits and rolled to wins of 11-8 and 11-2 over Wheaton College at Horenberger Field on Tuesday, April 16.
Illinois Wesleyan improved to 14-12 overall and 7-5 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while Wheaton slipped to 18-10 overall and 8-7 in league play.
In both games one and two, eight of the nine starting position players got base hits.
Senior second baseman
Stephen Billington had three hits including a home run and had three runs batted in while junior third baseman
Dalton Fletcher had two hits with a double and three RBI. Junior shortstop
Brandon Skopick had three hits with a double, junior first baseman
Garrett Shea had two hits with a double and senior designated hitter
Ben Manski opened the IWU scoring by blasting a home run over the rightfield porch and onto Franklin Ave.
Senior starter
Nick Brune worked the first six innings, striking out five and allowing three earned runs on eight hits with two walks. Junior
Casey Becker (1-0), the fourth Titan hurler in the opener, got the win and sophomore
Matt Blaney pitched a scoreless ninth and earned his third save of the season.
Skopick, Shea and freshman rightfielder
Evan Ranneklev all had doubles in game two as IWU scored four runs in the first and tacked on three as late as the eighth to seal the win. Fletcher had three hits in the nightcap to finish off a 5-for-9 doubleheader with five RBI and three runs scored.
Sophomore starting pitcher
Quinn Gudaitis (4-1) struck out 10 in six innings, allowing four hits and one unearned run.
