No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan Softball Gets Two Shutout Wins at Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. -- The No. 4-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team won by scores of 2-0 (in 10 innings) and 1-0 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin doubleheader at Millikin University at Workman Family Field on Wednesday, April 10.

The Titans are 19-4 overall and improved to 6-0 in the CCIW while the Big Blue is now 18-8 overall and 4-6 against league opponents.

In game one, junior Ally Wiegand (10-2) was the winning pitcher as she struck out 10 and allowed seven hits across nine innings and junior Brea Walker earned the save by pitching a scoreless 10th inning.
In the IWU 10th, freshman catcher Hayley Earl reached on a fielder's choice and went to second on a single by junior rightfielder Nicki Lewis. Senior Jillian Runyon singled to load the bases before third baseman Mia Massaro forced Earl at the plate. With two outs, junior second baseman Shelby Fulk delivered a single to right field to score Lewis and Runyon.

Walker (9-1) allowed only three hits and fanned five in winning the complete game shutout in game two. In the bottom of the seventh, junior leftfielder Brittany Murphy had a two-out double to knock home Earl for the sole run of the game.
