No. 4 Titan Softball Wins Twice vs. Monmouth at Home Monday

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan softball team opened its home season with a pair of nonconference wins over Monmouth College on Monday, March 25. The Titans won game one, 8-0, and took a 4-1 decision in the nightcap.

With the wins, Illinois Wesleyan improved to 10-3 and the Scots are now 3-13.

In the opener, junior Brea Walker (5-1) allowed three hits with four walks and had four strikeouts. IWU had a 10-hit attack with two hits each coming from junior second baseman Shelby Fulk and junior shortstop Sam Berghoff, who had a solo homer in the fourth and drove home another run in the fifth.
Junior rightfielder Brittany Murphy and freshman first baseman Colleen Palczynski each had two runs batted in to lead IWU in the game shortened by the run-rule.

After Monmouth's Kaelen Bradley led off the second game with a home run, IWU junior Ally Wiegand (5-1) allowed no more runs and only three more hits, all singles. Wiegand struck out 10 and walked none in the four-hit complete game.
