ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team was limited to one run on 13 hits across 18 innings of a doubleheader in losing 6-0 and 2-1 to Washington U. at Kelly Park in St. Louis on Saturday, March 23.
The Titans are 7-6 and the Bears improved to 11-3-1.
In game one, IWU was limited to six hits with freshman leftfielder
Evan Ranneklev accounting for two doubles, the Titans' only extra-base hits in the doubleheader.
Senior
Nick Brune (2-1) threw six innings and allowed six runs on eight hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
Casey Becker finished with two scoreless innings.
Junior second baseman
Jeran Simpson had two singles of the eight Titan hits in game two and senior leftfielder
John Bosco's seventh inning groundout provided the only RBI, knocking in junior first baseman
Garrett Shea, who had walked.
Sophomore
Quinn Gudaitis scattered two singles and allowed one unearned run in seven innings while striking out six. Sophomore
Matt Blaney (1-1) took the pitching loss with an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Thomas Gardner struck out swinging but reached first on a passed ball. He advanced to third on a double by pinch-hitter Brendan Hall. John Ostrander was intentionally walked before Collin Kahal delivered a sacrifice fly to rightfield.

The Titans are Bears are slated to play a single game on Sunday at Kelly Park with a 12 p.m. first pitch.
