Illinois Wesleyan Softball 6-0 After Wins Over Thomas More and Linfield

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The No. 2-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team won another two games at the PFX Athletics Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., on Friday, March 15, topping Thomas More University, 2-1, and beating No. 9-ranked Linfield, 7-0.

The Titans are 6-0 this season while Linfield is now 11-2-1 and Thomas More is 4-5.

Against Thomas More, junior Ally Wiegand (3-0) scattered three hits and struck out six in the complete game. The Titans scored a run in the first when freshman first baseman Colleen Palczynski drove in senior centerfielder Jillian Runyon with a sacrifice fly to leftfield.
After hitting a triple, Runyon scored the Titans' other run in the fifth on a bunt single from freshman catcher Hayley Earl.

Junior Brea Walker (3-0) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before allowing a single with one out. She struck out two and walked two in the complete game shutout.
Illinois Wesleyan broke open a scoreless game with all seven runs in the sixth inning, started with a one-out solo homer by junior shortstop Sam Berghoff. Earl, Palczynski and junior designated hitter Mia Massaro each had two hits and Runyon and junior leftfielder Nicki Lewis each provided two runs batted in.

Illinois Wesleyan wraps up play in Florida with Saturday (March 16) games against Calvin College at 3:45 p.m. and Rowan University at 6:30 p.m. The Profs (4-3) were No. 12 nationally as recently as the March 6 Division III poll ...
