Third Quarter Offense Helps Titan Men's Lacrosse to 18-13 Win

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team broke open a halftime tie with six third quarter goals and went on to an 18-13 win over Mary Washington at The Battlegrounds in Fredericksburg, Va., on Wednesday, March 13

Illinois Wesleyan improved to 4-0 while Mary Washington dipped to 4-4. The game was knotted at 7-7 at the break when IWU ran out to a 6-2 third quarter to take a 13-9 lead and also outscored the Eagles 5-4 in the final period.

Bailey Marth led Illinois Wesleyan with five goals while Will Rossi, Ty Collins and Cole Harden each had three tallies. Rick Smith had two goals and added five assists.

Illinois Wesleyan goalkeeper Will Harris made 15 saves as Mary Washington had 28 shots on goal compared to 29 for IWU. The Titans had 57 total shots while the Eagles had 48.

Mary Washington had 51 ground ball pickups to 40 for IWU, who was led by 11 from Max Bousky. Illinois Wesleyan won 20 of 35 faceoffs and was successful on 19 of 28 clears.

Mary Washington was led by the four goals and two assists from Chris White.
