SALISBURY, Md. --Salisbury, the No. 1-ranked Division III team in the country, handed the Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team its first loss of the season in a 22-6 setback at Sea Gull Stadium in Salisbury, Md., on Friday, March 15.
The Titans are now 4-1 this season while the Sea Gulls improved to 7-0. Salisbury has won the Division III championship 12 times, most recently in 2016 and 2017.
IWU had the game tied at 2-2 before the Sea Gulls went on a 6-0 run to go up 8-2 and held a 12-4 lead at intermission. After closing to within seven goals at 13-6, IWU didn't score the remaining 23:19 as Salisbury tallied nine times.
Salisbury posted 65 shots and 37 shots on goal to 29 total shots and 16 on goal for Illinois Wesleyan. Six players each scored one goal for Illinois Wesleyan who got goals and assists from
Ty Collins and
Patrick Murphy. Josh Melton had six goals and Corey Gwin scored five to lead the Sea Gulls.
Salisbury had 50 ground balls to 33 for Illinois Wesleyan, who was paced by
Max Bousky with five, and IWU won 11 of the 30 faceoffs as Bousky was eight of 23 and senior
J.C. Grabarek was three of seven.

Will Harris made 15 saves in his 60 minutes as netminder.

Illinois Wesleyan returns home from its Spring Break trip and has a game against DePauw University (1-4) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Tucci Stadium.
