CLERMONT, Fla. -- The No. 2-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team defeated Millsaps College, 2-1, and downed Amherst, 8-0, on the team's second day of action at PFX Athletics Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., on Wednesday, March 13.
The Titans are 4-0 this season while Millsaps is 8-12 and Amherst lost for the first time and is 5-1.
Against Millsaps, IWU managed just five hits and senior centerfielder
Jillian Runyon scored both runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the fifth on a steal of home plate.

Hayley Earl had the other hit, a run-scoring single.

Brea Walker (2-0) pitched five innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits with four strikeouts. Junior

Illinois Wesleyan got a fourth inning grand slam from junior shortstop
Shelby Fulk to put a 3-0 game out of reach and extend the IWU lead to 7-0. Eight Titans had base hits with Murphy and junior designated hitter
Mia Massaro each getting two and freshman first baseman
Colleen Palczynski getting a double for the team's other extra base hit.
Wiegand (2-0) went all six innings, striking out seven and allowing three singles to Mammoths hitters.

On Friday, March 15, Illinois Wesleyan takes on Thomas More College at 4 p.m. ET and plays No. 13-ranked Linfield College at 6:15 p.m.
