BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Senior
Maddie Merritt scored 20 points to lead five players in double figure scoring as the No. 18-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team cruised to an 80-54 win over Millikin University at the Shirk Center on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
The Titans improved to 18-4 this season and are 11-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Big Blue had a three-game winning streak snapped and has an 8-14 overall mark and are 4-9 in the CCIW. Illinois Wesleyan has now won nine in a row against and 26 of the last 27 in the series against Millikin.

Merritt was 10 of 13 from the field as the Titans shot .545 in the game (36 of 66). Sophomore
Kendall Sosa came off the bench to score 14 and
Sam Munroe scored 10, also off the bench. Sophomore
Raven Hughes had 13 points and junior
Sydney Shanks added 11 and each had five rebounds to tie
Nina Anderson for the team lead as Illinois Wesleyan grabbed 38 rebounds to 26 for Millikin.
Illinois Wesleyan never trailed in the game and led for 39:32 with the game tied at 0-0 for the first 28 seconds. The Titans handed out assists on 61 percent of their baskets (22 assists on 36) and capitalized on 24 Millikin turnovers that led to 23 points. IWU was guilty of 15 turnovers.
Briana Anthony scored 16 points and Aubrey Staton added 15 for the Big Blue, whose top scorer Yanni Sadler was held to nine points, well below her average of 18.5 per game..

Illinois Wesleyan has its annual Seniors' Night game on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 5 p.m. against Elmhurst College at the Shirk Center ... The Bluejays are 9-13 overall and 5-8 in the conference after a 71-62 win at home over Carroll on Wednesday. That win snapped a four-game losing streak for Elmhurst ... IWU defeated the Bluejays, 81-61, back on Dec. 5 in Elmhurst.
