SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Seniors
Bailey Marth and
Will Rossi and freshman
Rick Smith each scored five goals as the Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team topped Wittenberg University, 20-13, on Sunday, Feb. 24, at Edwards-Maurer Field in Springfield, Ohio.
The Titans improved to 2-0 and the Tigers are now 1-1.
Illinois Wesleyan jumped out to a 7-1 lead after the first quarter and led 10-6 at halftime. In addition to the five goal outputs from Smith, Rossi and Marth, the Titans got two goals each from freshman
Cole Harden, who also had two assists, and junior
Cristian Torres with one from junior
Danny Lowe.
Illinois Wesleyan collected 68 ground balls to 58 for the Tigers, led by 13 from
Max Bousky and eight from Rossi. Bousky also won 21 of 29 faceoffs as the Titans claimed 23 of the 37 in the game.
Illinois Wesleyan led in shots (51-44) and shots on goal (34-26) and the Titans were guilty of 32 turnovers compared to 27 for Wittenberg. IWU sophomore goalkeeper
McGuire Mynatt had 13 saves and Wittenberg's keeper Paxton Kreger made 14.
Wittenberg was led by four goals from Jerry Coyle.

Illinois Wesleyan's next game will be March 10 at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio.
