Men's Hoops Knocks Off No. 21 Carthage

Luke Yoder turns in career-high 26 points

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team knocked off No. 21 Carthage College, 95-91, in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play Saturday night, Dec. 7, inside the Shirk Center. Freshman Luke Yoder (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) dropped a career-high 26 points, while juniors Doug Wallen (Champaign, Ill.-Champaign Central) and Charlie Bair (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South) recorded double-doubles in the win.

Illinois Wesleyan moved to 6-2 on the season with the victory, including a 1-1 mark in CCIW play. The loss was the first of the season for the Red Men, who are now 6-1 overall and 1-1 in conference action.

A three-ball from Carthage's Jordon Kedrowski cut IWU's once 12-point edge to six, 79-73, with 5:34 to play, but with the Red Men gaining momentum Yoder came through. After knocking down a pair of free throws, the 6-foot guard swiped a Carthage pass and hit a triple to extend the Titans lead to 11, 84-73, with four minutes to go.

Another big bucket by Kedorwski saw Illinois Wesleyan cling to a two-point lead with 24 seconds to play, but two more FT's by Yoder sealed the 95-91 win. Yoder's freebies capped a 9-of-10 showing at the line by the Titans over the final four minutes of play.

Making his second career start, Yoder net his 26 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers, while going a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line. The Bloomington product also added a career-high four steals.

Wallen stuffed the scoresheet, tying Bair for the team lead with 11 rebounds, and added 20 points, three steals, and two assists. Meanwhile, Bair tallied 13 points to notch his third double-double of the year. Together, Wallen and Bair are the first Titans to post double-doubles in the same game since Darius Gant and Zach Freeman accomplished the feat Feb. 14, 2007.

Sophomore Peter Lambesis (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-Mt. Prospect) chipped in 14 points to round out IWU's double-digit scorers.

The Titans will enjoy an extended break for final exams before picking back up at Augustana College Sunday, Dec. 15. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Rock Island, Ill. and will follow the IWU women's basketball team's game against the Vikings.
