Volleyball to Host Millikin in CCIW Semifinal Showdown

IWU bested MU 3-0 in Decatur earlier this season

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The second-seeded Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team begins its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Volleyball Tournament journey at home Thursday night, Nov. 7, when the Titans host third-seeded Millikin University. First serve of the CCIW semifinal is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Shirk Center.

Illinois Wesleyan earned the second seed in the conference tournament with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Elmhurst, Oct. 30. Meanwhile, Millikin is the third seed in the tournament. The Big Blue advanced to Thursday night's semifinal with a clean sweep of No. 6 Wheaton, 25-20, 25-23, and 25-18, in Decatur, Nov. 5.

The semifinal showdown will serve as the 34th all-time meeting between the Titans and Big Blue. IWU trails in the all-time series, 16-17, but has won three straight matches against MU. Most recently, Illinois Wesleyan swept Millikin in Decatur in this year's regular season meeting, Sept. 27. The win, which was the first of the season for the Titans, saw IWU dominate the match. The Green and White hit at a .171 clip, while the defensive efforts led by a four-block showing from sophomore Courtney McAulliffe (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont HS) held Millikin to a -.021 attacking percentage.

Illinois Wesleyan will make its third straight CCIW Tournament appearance, and its fourth in the past five years. IWU won the conference tournament title last season, defeating Millikin 3-1 in the semis, before ousting Carthage in four sets to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The winner of the Thursday's match will advance to the  CCIW Tournament Championship against the winner of the Carthage/Augustana semifinal. The championship match will take place Saturday, Nov. 9, and will be hosted by the highest remaining seed. For more information on the CCIW Tournament click here.
