Men’s Soccer Outlasts North Central in PKs to Advance to First-Ever CCIW Final

IWU won penalty shootout over North Central 4-1

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer made history by advancing to the program's first-ever College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship match via penalty kicks over North Central College, Wednesday night, Nov. 6. After playing the second-seeded Cardinals to a 0-0 tie through 110 minutes, the Titans took care of business decisively in penalty kicks, 4-1.

Seniors Justin Yaeger (New Lenox, Ill,-Lincoln-Way West HS) and Orion Marty (Addison, Texas-Greenhill School) and junior Bobby Reichert (Yorkville, Ill.-Yorkville HS) converted the first three penalty kicks before senior Patrick Hickey (Des Plaines, Ill.-St. Viator HS) delivered the clincher to secure IWU's trip to the CCIW men's soccer final.
Senior Alex Ruckstaetter (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West HS) saved two shots in regulation and the two overtime periods.

It was a closely contested match in the scoresheet, with IWU edging North Central in shots (15 to 13), shots on goal (4 to 2), and corners (5 to 4).

Illinois Wesleyan will look to capture the CCIW crown Saturday, Nov. 9, when the Titans travel to Chicago to face off against number-one seeded North Park University. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
