Men's Soccer's Fight Falls Short in CCIW Championship at North Park

The Titans finish the season with a 9-8-2 record

CHICAGO - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team saw its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament run come to an end with a 2-1 loss to top-seeded North Park University in the CCIW Championship match Saturday night, Nov. 9. The setback snapped a six-match unbeaten streak for the Titans, who finished the year with a 9-8-2 record.

The match marked the final in the careers of senior seniors Logan Alexander (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo HS), Doug Ballard (Solana Beach, Calif.-Canyon Crest Academy), Spencer Bard (Appleton, Wis.-Appleton West HS), Luke Cangilla (Broomfield, Colo.-Broomfield HS), Jack Dilger (Homer Glen, Ill.-Lockport Township HS), Josh Essary (League City, Texas-Clear Springs HS), Patrick Hickey (Des Plaines, Ill.-St. Viator HS), Michael Juarez (Bloomington, Ill.-University HS), Orion Marty (Addison, Texas-Greenhill School), Alex Ruckstaetter (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West HS), Konrad Wasilewski (Algonquin, Ill.-Harry D. Jacobs HS), and Justin Yaeger (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way West HS).

Illinois Wesleyan struck first as Ballard played a ball through to sophomore Keegan James () on a breakaway in the opening minute. James buried the shot for his second goal of the year to put IWU in front, 1-ni, just 57 seconds into the match.

North Park responded with the equalizer in the 17th minute before adding the game-winner in the 38th minute to oust the Titans 2-1.

NPU held a 14-10 edge in shots, while each team manufactured two corners.

Ruckstaetter made six saves in his final match in goal to push his career total to 156, the fourth-most in IWU history. Additionally, Hickey saw his time in the Green and White conclude with 55 career points, the sixth-most by a Titan all-time and the most since Kyle Gorgol tallied 61 from 2009-12.
