BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team kicked off Homecoming weekend with a 3-1 triumph over Augustana College Friday night, Oct. 4, inside the Shirk Center. With the win, the Titans moved to 2-2 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play.
The Titans dropped the first set 25-21, before winning three straight sets to win the match, 3-1. Illinois Wesleyan cruised to a 25-15 win in the second to even the match at one apiece. After pulling out a tight 25-20 victory in the third, the Titans carried the momentum into the fourth for a 25-12 win, capped by a match-ending ace by sophomore
 Makenna Jacoby (Shorewood, Ill.-Minooka Community HS).
IWU put together one of its finest performances of the season against the Vikings, hitting a season-high .278 with 51 kills. Defensively, the Titans totaled 53 digs and nine blocks.
Junior
Jessica McCall (Wayne, Ill.-Wheaton St. Francis HS) paced a balanced effort that saw five Titans finish with six-or-more kills. McCall led the way with 14 on a .294 clip, while freshmen
Grace Sanders (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington HS) and
Evy Makris (Orland Park, Ill.-Sandburg HS) chipped in nine apiece. Sanders added nine digs, and Makris hit a career-best .533 while tying for the team lead with four blocks.Â
Sophomore
Amber Juarez (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) notched a match-best 19 digs, along with four assists, and two aces. Sophomores
Courtney McAuliffe (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont HS) and
Madi Corey (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East HS) each added four blocks and six kills. Both McAuliffe and Corey posted a .455 attacking percentage, while Corey added 34 assists.
The Titans return to action Wednesday night, Oct. 9, for a CCIWÂ matchup with North Central College. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
