IWU outshot Wheaton for the game, 10 to 9

WHEATON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team was defeated 1-0 at Wheaton College in its College Conference of Illinois and Wiscosin opener Friday evening, Oct. 4 at Joe Bean Stadium. The Thunder converted a penalty kick at the 67th minute to give them the winning margin over the Titans.

IWU outshot Wheaton 10 to 9, led by senior Doug Ballard (Solana Beach, Calif.-Canyon Crest Academy) who led all Titans with two shots. Senior Justin Yaeger (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way West HS), sophomore Donovan Malone (Houston, Texas-St. Pius X HS), and freshman Will Carlson (Clyde Hill, Wash.-Newport HS) all had a shot on goal to tie for the team lead.

The Titan defense held Wheaton to only two shots on goal, and drew seven corners while the Thunder only had one the entire game.

IWU's next match will take place Wednesday, Oct. 9, at North Central College for a 7 p.m. clash between CCIW foes.
