Volleyball Wins Nail-Biter at Elmhurst to Lock Up No. 2 Seed in CCIW Tournament

Emily Steininger racked up a career-high 17 kills to lead the Titans

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team locked up the No. 2 seed in next week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament with a nail-biting five-set victory at Elmhurst College Wednesday night, Oct. 30.

The Titans clipped the Bluejays 25-20, 13-25, 25-19, 25-27, and 15-11 to move to 6-2 in CCIW play and 9-19 overall. With the win, Illinois Wesleyan moved into a tie with Millikin in the CCIW standings, but claims the second-seed via tiebreaker thanks to a 3-0 sweep of the Big Blue earlier this season.

Senior Emily Steininger (Melrose Park, Ill.-West Leyden HS) was outstanding for the Titans, notching 15 of her career-high 17 kills in the last three sets. Steininger racked up 17 kills on 33 attempts for a whopping .364 attack percentage, while adding three digs. Sophomore Courtney McAuliffe (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont HS) was also strong offensively for the Green and White, totaling 10 kills on a .318 clip to go along with four blocks and two digs.

Sophomore Madi Corey (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East HS) and junior Jessica McCall (Wayne, Ill.-Wheaton St. Francis HS) each added double-doubles. Corey dished out a career-high 46 assists and chipped in 11 digs in addition to six kills, an ace, and a block. McCall tallied a 13-dig, 12-kill performance with three blocks and a pair of aces.Additionally, sophomore Amber Juarez (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) led the Titans with 20 digs and a team-best three aces.

Illinois Wesleyan now awaits its CCIW Tournament Semifinals opponent, as the Titans will host the winner of the Tuesday, Nov. 5 quarterfinal between the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds.
