Men’s Soccer Hold Off Late Rally by Carroll

Patrick Hickey scored 10th career game-winning goal

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team came out victorious over Carroll University 2-1, Saturday, Oct. 26. The third straight victory by the Titans give them an 8-7-0 record with a 4-2 record in CCIW play.

Sophomore Trevor Martin (San Diego, Calif.-St. Augustine HS) got IWU on the board first in the 12th minute with a header from a pass by senior Doug Ballard (Solana Beach, Calif.-Canyon Crest Academy). The goal was the only score of the first half as the Titans went into halftime leading 1-0.

Senior Patrick Hickey (Des Plaines, Ill.-St. Viator HS) scored his career-high seventh goal of the season in the 75th minute on a pass by Ballard that proved to be the game-winner as Carroll got on the board in the 79th minute. The goal put Hickey at 50 career points and also gives him 10 game-winning goals in an IWU uniform. The Titan defense only allowed one shot after the Pioneers scored to give IWU the win.

Martin and Ballard both led all Titans with three shots each. Senior Alex Ruckstaetter (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West HS) saved three shots in goal. IWU outshot Carroll 17 to 13 and drew eight corners while allowing four.

Illinois Wesleyan will play their next match at Neis Field in search of their fourth straight win versus fellow CCIW rival Millikin University, Wednesday, Oct. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
