Football Tripped Up by WashU

Dave Lux notched 16 tackles, the eighth-most in IWU history

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University football team had win streak snapped at four with a 21-0 loss to Washington University in St. Louis in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play Saturday, Oct. 26, at a rainy Tucci Stadium. The loss snaps the Titans 15-game win streak in the month of October, a stretch that dates back to 2016.

With the loss, the Titans fall to 4-3 on the season and now sit at 4-2 in conference play. The Bears are now 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the CCIW.

Consistent rain made it difficult for either side to find any consistency on offense as neither team cracked 200 yards of total offense. Illinois Wesleyan finished with 161 yards to WashU's 158, gaining 97 on the ground and 64 through the air.

Senior linebacker Dave Lux (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way North HS) put together a 16-tackle performance with four tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble. His 16 stops are tied for the eighth-most in IWU single game history. Senior Jake Kapp (Wheaton, Ill.-Montini Catholic HS) added six tackles, 2.5 of which were for loss.

Senior Ryan Paslay (Brighton, Ill.-Southwestern HS) paced the IWU offense with 83 rushing yards on 24 carries, while fellow senior Bryce Dooley (LeRoy, Ill.-LeRoy HS) hauled in a team-high four catches for 17 yards.

The Bears scored twice in the opening period to go up two scores. WashU added a 28-yard touchdown pass before the half to solidify the final 21-0 setback for the Titans.

Illinois Wesleyan is back in action next weekend, Nov. 2, against Millikin University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Tucci Stadium.
