BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team won its second consecutive game, defeating Carthage College 3-0, Saturday, Oct. 19. The Titans improved their record to 7-7-0 after the victory, with a win-loss mark of 3-2 in CCIW play.
Sophomore Trevor Martin (San Diego, Calif.-St. Augustine HS) got the Titans on the board in the 11th minute with a goal off a corner kick, with assists from seniors
Patrick Hickey (Des Plaines, Ill.-St. Viator HS) and
Justin Yaeger (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way West HS). The assist by Yaeger was his 10th career with the Titans.
In the second half, senior Doug Ballard (Solana Beach, Calif.-Canyon Crest Academy) capitalized with a score off a pass from freshman
Dane Hoare (Chicago, Ill.-Von Steuben HS) in the 57th minute. Hickey then converted a penalty kick for the second consecutive game in the 59th minute, capping off the scoring.
Hickey led all Titans with five shots with three on goal, and Martin tallied three shots. Senior Alex Ruckstaetter (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West HS) and sophomore
Austin Woodside (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community HS) combined for the shutout against the Red Men. IWU outshot Carthage 16 to 10, while Carthage drew more corners, 7 to 4.
The men's soccer team will travel to Wisconsin to play their next match against Carroll University, Saturday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. as the second leg of a doubleheader with the women's soccer team.
