Potent Attack Leads Volleyball Past North Park

Three Titans notched double-digit kills

CHICAGO - Hot hitting led the Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team to a 3-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin win at North Park University Wednesday night, Oct. 16. The Titans improved to 4-2 in CCIW play with the victory, while the Vikings fell to 0-5.

IWU took control 2-0 in the match with 25-18 and 25-23 set wins. After North Park claimed the third 25-21 to avoid being swept, the Titans won the fourth 25-18.

Illinois Wesleyan dominated the match offensively, hitting .243 for the match with 49 kills spread among seven players. IWU also held the advantage in blocks, 9 to 1, and aces, 7-6. North Park led the digs tally 77 to 71.

Sophomore Madi Corey (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East HS) orchestrated a balanced IWU attack that saw three players finish with double-digit kills on Corey's 39 assists. Sophomore Courtney McAuliffe (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont HS) tallied 10 kills, with an attacking percentage of .529, and added nine blocks. Junior Jessica McCall (Wayne, Ill.-Wheaton St. Francis) picked up her fifth straight double-double with a team-high 16 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Evy Makris (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg HS) added 10 kills on a .381 clip, three blocks, and an ace.

Four Titans finished with 12-or-more digs, led by sophomore Amber Juarez's (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) team-high 23. Freshman Grace Sanders (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington HS) and sophomore Makenna Jacoby (Shorewood, Ill.-Minooka Community HS) chipped in 13 digs each, with McCall adding a dozen. Juarez, Sanders, and Jacoby also added two aces apiece.

Illinois Wesleyan wraps up its roadtrip at the Coe College Invitational this weekend, Oct. 18-19. There, the Titans will face off against Coe Friday night, Oct. 18, at 5 p.m. followed by Saturday matches against St. Thomas and UW-La Crosse.
