BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team used a four-goal first half to propel the Titans to a 4-1 victory over Augustana College, Wednesday evening, Oct. 16. The win improves IWU's record to 6-7-0 overall with a 2-2-0 mark in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play.
Senior Patrick Hickey (Des Plaines, Ill.-St. Viator HS) got the Titans on the board in the eighth minute with a strike into the net off passes from fellow seniors
Doug Ballard (Solana Beach, Calif.-Canyon Crest Academy) and
Luke Cangilla (Broomfield, Colo.-Broomfield HS). Hickey then doubled the IWU lead with a converted penalty kick 10 minutes later. With the second goal being the game-winner, he now holds the all-time record for career game-winners with nine.
Freshman Nico Thomas (Rochester Hills, Mich.-Bethany HS) scored his first career goal off a feed from sophomore
Zack Kokes (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central HS) in the 30th minute. Just three minutes later, Kokes made it a 4-0 advantage with a goal of his own from senior
Konrad Wasilewski's (Algonquin, Ill.-Harry D. Jacobs HS) pass.
For the game, Hickey led all Titans with six shots and four shots on goal. IWU held the edge over Augie on shots (21 to 10) and corners (5 to 1).
The men's soccer team will return to Neis Field against Carthage College, Saturday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and will serve as the second leg of a doubleheader with the IWU women's soccer team.
