Titans Shoot Past Big Blue, 84-72, in CCIW

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Senior Brady Rose scored 27 points to lead four players in double figures as the Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team claimed an 84-72 win over Millikin University on Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Shirk Center.

The Titans improved to 12-8 overall and 5-6 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Big Blue slipped to 10-10 overall and 4-8 against league opponents.

Senior Colin Bonnett scored 13 points while senior Jason Gregoire scored 11 and sophomore Charlie Bair added 11 points and collected a team-high eight rebounds.

The Titans, who finished at .528 from the floor in the game, shot .577 (15 of 26) from the field in the first 20 minutes, going to a 46-38 halftime lead. Illinois Wesleyan stretched that to its largest lead, a 15-point advantage at 58-43 with 12:06 to play in the game.
Leading by a 72-62 score with 3:56 remaining left, the Titans were outscored 10-4 as Millikin closed to within four points at 76-72 with 1:40 remaining. But the Titans held the Big Blue scoreless the rest of the game while making 8 of 8 from the free throw line.

Early in the game, there were five ties and six lead changes.

Millikin was led by the 16-point effort from Zach Fisher while his brother Calvin scored 11 and Elijah Henry had 10. Jordan Cunningham grabbed 14 rebounds as the Big Blue held a 35-32 edge over the Titans.

What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan plays at Carthage at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2. The Red Men have lost five straight and are 7-13 overall and 2-9 in the CCIW after an 87-80 loss at Elmhurst on Thursday.
