CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team came back strong after a pair of losses to ranked teams in California with a 97-49 win at North Park University in Chicago on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
The Titans improved to 9-5 overall and 2-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings are now 4-10 and also 2-3 in the league.
The Titans had four players score in double figures, led by the 18-point performance of senior
Jason Gregoire, who was an efficient six of eight from the field and made four of five 3-pointers. Freshman
Matthew Leritz had 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds while senior
Colin Bonnett had 13 points and senior
Brady Rose scored 11 points and handed out a career-high nine assists.
Sophomore
Grant Wolfe also had six assists as the team had 25.
Illinois Wesleyan trailed by a 16-11 score before going on a 17-2 surge to take a 28-18 lead and led reeling off a 17-2 run on its way to a 44-30 halftime advantage. The Titans finished with a 55.7 shooting mark from the field (39 of 70), their third-best of the season, and sank 10 of 20 3-point shots. Illinois Wesleyan held a 45-23 rebounding lead
Vegard Tangen scored 15 points to lead North Park, who shot only 34.6 percent from the field (18 of 52) and committed 23 turnovers that translated into 29 Titan points.
