Shanks's Career-High 25 Leads Titans to Win Over Augie

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Junior Sydney Shanks scored a career-high 25 points, including 17 in the first half, to pace the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team to an 81-65 win over Augustana at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Ill., on Saturday, Jan. 19.

The Titans are now 15-3 overall and 8-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings are 11-7 overall and 5-4 in the league.

Shanks's previous high was 22 at Wis.-Stevens Point (12/3/18) and she made 12 of 15 field goals as Illinois Wesleyan shot a season-high .565 (35 of 62). Shanks also had five steals, two assists and two rebounds.

Senior Maddie Merritt added 14 points, sophomore Raven Hughes scored 11 and sophomore Riley Brovelli notched 10. Brovelli and senior Ashley Schneider each grabbed six rebounds as Illinois Wesleyan held a commanding 34-26 lead on the boards, including a 23-8 margin in the first half when IWU led in the game by a 48-30 score.

With 6:13 to play in the game, IWU built up its largest lead of 31 points at 80-49.

The Vikings were led by 13 points from Jeni Crain off the bench and 10 points from Sadie Roberts.
