BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The No. 18-ranked Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team won both of the Saturday matches in the Holiday Inn Express Classic II at the Shirk Center, downing Texas Lutheran in three sets and besting Williams College in four sets.
Winners of four straight, the Titans improved to 9-5 this season by beating Texas Lutheran by scores of 25-22, 25-16, 25-12 and defeated the Ephs by scores of 25-20, 25-15, 24-26, 25-20.
Titan seniors
Tyler Brown and
Rachel Burkman were chosen to the all-tournament team. Against Texas Lutheran, Burkman had 14 kills, 13 digs and three blocks while Brown had 10 kills and nine digs.
Heidi Dague also added three blocks with freshman
Bev Ryan making two blocks and seven kills.
Senior
Leah Seielstad led IWU with 17 assists and freshman
Madi Corey had 15. Freshman
Amber Juarez contributed 10 digs.
Illinois Wesleyan hit .448 in the third and final set and had a .271 hitting percentage for the match with 44 kills in 107 tries with 15 errors.
The Bulldogs hit .082 for the match with 24 kills and 16 errors in 98 attempts.
In the Williams match, Burkman had 19 kills, three service aces and 11 digs with Brown making 16 kills and getting a team-high 23 digs. Corey had 20 assists and Seielstad added 16 with sophomore
Jessica McCall providing team-highs of four service aces and four blocks. Juarez also had 11 digs.
The Ephs hit .159 in the four-set match with 44 kills and 20 errors in 151 attempts while Illinois Wesleyan had a .210 attack percentage with 53 kills in 157 tries.
Brown now has 1,524 career kills, third most in school history behind Kellie Schmidt with 1,614 (1996-99) and Beth Crowley with 1,533 (2000-03).

Illinois Wesleyan resumes College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play on Tuesday, Sept. 25, meeting Wheaton College in a 7 p.m. road game.
