Titans Escape Early Deficit to Roll Past Augustana, 41-24

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- After falling into a 10-0 hole to start the game, the Illinois Wesleyan football team reeled off 34 straight points and went on to post a 41-24 win over the Augustana College Vikings at Ericson Field in Rock Island, Ill., on Saturday, Sept. 22.
 
The Titans are 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings are also 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
 
Illinois Wesleyan junior wide receiver Jack Healy made 12 catches for 203 yards with three touchdowns. He is the first IWU receiver to get over 200 yards in 15 years and the total is tied for ninth most in an IWU single game. Go here to see IWU single game receiving records.
 
Junior quarterback Brandon Bauer completed 24 of 35 passes for 320 yards and four touchdowns and senior running back Morgan Alexander got his first 100+ yard rushing game of the season with 118 yards on 24 carries.
In career rankings Bauer now has 378 completions in 626 attempts for 4,455 yards, ranking No. 7 in all three categories in IWU history. His career 60.4 completion percentage is third all-time for IWU quarterbacks with a minimum of 100 attempts. Go here to see current IWU career passing records.
 
Against Augustana, Illinois Wesleyan amassed 507 yards of total offense (187 rush, 320 pass) compared to 320 yards for the Vikings (127 rush, 193 pass). Each team had two turnovers.
 
Defensively, Illinois Wesleyan was led by Ryan Swift with nine total tackles with junior linebacker Jake Kapp and senior linebacker Andrew Ostrowski accounting for eight tackles each. Senior defensive back Quintin Walters had two interceptions for 28 return yards. Swift, Ostrowski, junior lineman Chance Hilliard and sophomore lineman Mike Murphy all had quarterback sacks for the Titans.
 
What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan plays at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wis., next Saturday at 1 p.m. The Pioneers are 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the CCIW after a 16-14 road win over Elmhurst College on Saturday.
