2018 CCIW Women's Lacrosse Tournament Website
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team defeated Carroll University by a final score of 14-2 in the semifinal round of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament on Wednesday, May 2, at IWU's Tucci Stadium.
The Titans improved to 14-3 and will now host No. 2-seed North Central in the CCIW conference tourney title game at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 5.
The Cardinals improved to 16-2 this season with a 20-17 win over Carthage in a lightning-delayed semifinal in Naperville.
The Titans defeated North Central, 14-4, on April 25 in Bloomington.
Freshman
Janaye Godfrey was the winning goalkeeper making four saves and allowing two goals in the first half. Senior
Claire Quist played the second half in goal and made two saves while shutting out the Pioneers.
Carroll's Shelby Schoob made five saves and allowed 14 goals en route to the loss as Carroll's season ends at 13-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore Amanda Best and junior Sam Bidlack got the ball rolling for IWU scoring the first two goals of the game off assists from junior Grainne Kelly.
- Courtney Karls scored the Pioneers first goal of the game with 10 minutes to play in the first half, cutting IWU's lead to 2-1.
- Illinois Wesleyan responded with two goals of their own via junior Dani Engelbreit and Best to take a 4-1 lead.
- Carroll's final score of the game came with 3:33 to play in the first off a goal by Ariannah Ritter.
- The Titans ended the game on a 10-0 scoring run which began with a Kelly goal late in the first half.
- Junior Claudia Richman scored four times for the Titans in the second half and freshman Riley Rooney contributed two goals and two assists in the half.
SIGNIFICANT STATISTICS:
- Illinois Wesleyan outshot Carroll 26-12 overall and 19-9 in shots on goal.
- Both teams committed an equal amount of turnovers at 34 each.
- The Titans won 13-of-18 draw controls and were led in the draw by Engelbreit who won six.
