IWU Softball to Host Wisconsin-Whitewater in NCAA Super Regional Friday-Saturday

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- After sweeping three games at home in the NCAA Division III regional last weekend, the No. 24-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team will host No. 25 Wisconsin-Whitewater in the best-of-three NCAA Super Regional beginning with a single game at 2 p.m. Friday, May 18.

The teams return to IWU Softball Field on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game, followed by another game if necessary. The Super Regional winner advances to the NCAA III National Championships, held May 24-29 at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Tickets, all general admission and good for the entire day of play, are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and $5 for students with a valid school ID and children. Children under age 2 get in free.

Winners of seven straight games, the Titans are 34-10-1, are playing in the Super Regional round for the third straight season and have a 5-4 overall record in three previous Supers. The Titans lost their first Super Regional appearance at home in 2014 to Wisconsin-Whitewater and have won the 2016 tourney at Luther and the 2017 Super at Transylvania.

Illinois Wesleyan has a 41-34 record in 17 total NCAA appearances and has advanced for the last two seasons to the Division III final round. Go here for IWU appearances in NCAA Tournament.

Winners of nine straight games, the Warhawks (28-11-1) advanced to the NCAA Super Regional round for the first time since 2014 with a 3-2 home field triumph on Monday over Coe (Iowa) in the championship game of the Whitewater Regional. The Warhawk pitching staff ranks No. 35 in Division III with a 2.21 earned run average and No. 37 in strikeout-walk ratio at 3.24. Whitewater's defense is strong with a .966 field percentage.

Junior pitcher Julia Camardo was named the Regional's Most Outstanding Player, and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by senior centerfielder Caitlin Catino, junior first baseman Molly Ethington and senior left fielder Mallory Klotz. Camardo is the team's ace with a 1.97 earned run average and a .212 batting average against. Klotz leads the team in home runs (4) and runs batted in (33).

This season, the Titans defeated the Warhawks, 3-0 (box score), at home on April 23 and the teams played to a 2-2 tie (box score) through eight innings before rain halted the game.
