Softball Splits on Final Day of Home Tournament

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The No. 6-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University softball finished 1-1 on the final day of the 2018 Illinois Wesleyan Softball Tournament on Sunday, April 8. IWU dropped game one against Wittenberg, 4-0, before decisively besting Anderson University 11-1 in five innings.
 
Following the final day of the tournament, Illinois Wesleyan owns an overall record of 15-6.
 
Wittenberg concluded their tournament appearance with a 10-14 record and Anderson fell to 7-11 after losing to the Titans in the final game of the weekend.
 
In game one, Wittenberg righthander Chelsea Zang tossed a complete game no-hitter. Zang struck out five batters and took a perfect game into the final inning before surrendering a walk to sophomore Sam Berghoff.
 
Sophomore Brea Walker (4-3) was handed the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in four innings pitched.
 
After being held scoreless in two straight contests, the Illinois Wesleyan offense erupted for 11 runs in game two.
 
In a shortened game two, sophomore Ally Wiegand (7-2) allowed just two hits while striking out 11 Raven batters.
 
Sophomore Shelby Fulk, junior Jillian Runyon, and senior Maggie Graham each recorded two RBI in game two for IWU. Junior Julie Josten, sophomore Brittany Murphy, and Berghoff each drove in one. The Titans received extra-base hits from Fulk, Graham, and freshman Toni Tortorella.
 
IWU struck Anderson starter Hadley Decker (3-5) for eight earned runs and seven hits in just 2/3 of an inning.

WHAT'S NEXT?
After their initial date was postponed, the Titans will face the Lake Forest College Foresters at approximately 3 and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11. Lake Forest owns a 13-7 record in 2018, but haven't played a game since March 31 due to weather.
