BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team was defeated twice on Thursday, April 5, falling to Wheaton College by a final score of 12-1 and Millikin University by a score of 6-1.
With a pair of losses the Titans fell to 11-9 overall with a 2-5 record in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).
Following game one, Wheaton improved to 12-9 on the season with a 3-3 mark in CCIW action. Millikin improved to 11-8 and earned their first conference victory of the season at 1-4.
In the first game, IWU was limited to four singles and only had two hits in the seventh inning as Wheaton right-hander Michael McCraith struck out 11 while walking five.
Sophomore starter
Braden Miller (3-1) took the loss as he was tapped for 11 runs on 11 hits and five walks in four innings on the mound.
Illinois Wesleyan scored their lone run of the contest on a walk from senior
Jake Stewart.
In game two, IWU was held to one run score on just six hits as Millikin's Ben Williamson pitched a complete game while striking out eight and walking three.
Junior starter
Nick Brune (2-2) pitched seven innings allowing eight hits and three earned runs (four total). Brune struck out five batters and walked three.
Stewart came through with the Titans only RBI of game two, scoring junior
John Bosco on a single to center field. Both Stewart and Bosco finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate.
IWU left the bases loaded on two occasions during game two. A bunt single from Stewart in the first inning loaded the bases, but a pop up to the first baseman ended the Illinois Wesleyan threat. Following Stewart's RBI single in the third the Titans struck out in back-to-back at-bat's to leave three men on.
Millikin's John Walters finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple and a first inning home run.
