BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Among the action at the Illinois Wesleyan Softball Field on Saturday, April 28, included the honoring of the team's seniors, the tying of a six-year old strikeout record for a pitcher, and the winning of the regular season title in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
It is the 15th overall regular season championship in softball for IWU and the fourth in the last five years with others coming in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Illinois Wesleyan improved to 24-8-1 and 13-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Lady Reds slipped to .500 at 19-19 and finished 9-7 in the league. The same two teams will play in the first round of the conference tournament on Friday, May 4, at IWU.

In game one, sophomore
Ally Wiegand (11-2) struck out 17 Lady Reds, tying the single-game record set by Molly McCready against Monmouth on March 28, 2012. Wiegand allowed five hits and walked none.

Sophomore second baseman
Shelby Fulk had a two-run home run in the fifth inning and finished with three runs batted in and junior third baseman
Julie Josten also had three RBI with three hits, including a solo homer in the sixth.

Sophomore first baseman
Kara Bischoff also had a pair of hits in the opener.

Senior
Mackenzie Marquis (5-3) scattered four hits and struck out four in the complete-game shutout in the nightcap.

Seven separate Titans got hits with extra-base knocks coming from Josten and sophomore shortstop
Sam Berghoff (doubles) and Fulk (triple).
