ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team defeated Elmhurst College on Sunday, April 15 by a final score of 17-10. Illinois Wesleyan outscored the Bluejays in all but one quarter en route to handing Elmhurst their first loss of the conference season.
With a win the Titans improved to 10-3 overall with a 4-0 mark in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). Elmhurst fell to 10-2 with a 2-1 record in CCIW action.
Freshman
McGuire Mynatt was the winning goalkeeper making 10 saves in 58:20 of play time. Elmhurst's Jason Delgado was on the losing end of things making 21 saves, but allowing all 17 of Illinois Wesleyan's goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the game tied 1-1, junior J.C. Grabarek sparked a 3-0 Titan run with a goal immediately following a face-off victory at the 9:09 mark in the first quarter.
- Junior Will Rossi scored three times in the first quarter as Illinois Wesleyan clung to a 5-2 lead.
- Sophomore's Alex Doorenbos and Peter Trunk scored the only two goals of the second quarter to give IWU a 7-2 lead at halftime.
- Unanswered goals by Trunk, sophomore Joe Hynes, and junior Bailey Marth gave the Titans a 10-2 advantage to start the third quarter.
- Elmhurst began to find holes in the IWU defense scoring four goals in the first 7:30 of the fourth quarter and seven overall.
- With 1:54 remaining the Bluejays cut the Titan lead to 15-9, but goals from Doorenbos and Trunk extended it to 17-9 with 25 seconds remaining.
SIGNIFICANT STATISTICS
- Illinois Wesleyan out-shot the Bluejays 53-40 overall and 38-20 in shots on goal.
- IWU picked up 54 ground balls to 34 for Elmhurst.
- The Titans won 24-of-30 face-offs and lost the face-off just twice through three quarters.
- Defensively, Illinois Wesleyan held Elmhurst to a 1-of-7 performance in extra man opportunities. With two goals from Trunk and one from Doorenbos, the Titans converted on 3-of-6 extra man chances.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Illinois Wesleyan will welcome Beloit College to town on Thursday, April 19 for a 7:30 p.m. game. Beloit is 6-5 overall and are 1-1 against CCIW opponents this season. The Buccaneers defeated Augustana 10-9 on February 21, but lost at Elmhurst by a final score of 20-9 on March 27.
