IWU Titan Softball Goes 1-1 on Final Day at NFCA Tourney in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Illinois Wesleyan softball team won one and lost one on Sunday, March 4, the team's final day at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic at Lincoln Park in Tucson, Ariz. The Titans defeated Thomas More, 12-3, after losing to George Fox, 4-3.
 
In the first game, the Titans (now 3-3) were limited to three hits with two of those being singles from first baseman Kara Bischoff, who knocked in two runs.
 
Senior Mackenzie Marquis (0-1) pitched a complete game five-hitter, striking out three.
 
In game two, IWU had a 14-hit attack to support the three-hit pitching by Ally Wiegand (2-1), who struck out three in the game shortened to five innings.
Junior centerfielder Jillian Runyon had three hits, scored three runs and drove home two while sophomore shortstop Sam Berghoff had a single, a double and four RBI.
Sophomore second baseman Shelby Fulk, Bischoff, and junior third baseman Julie Josten also each had two hits.
 
George Fox has an 11-2 record this spring and Thomas More is 2-4.
 
What's Next?
The Titans see their next action on Friday, March 16 in the DePauw Tiger Invitational at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. Illinois Wesleyan meets Illinois College and DePauw on day one and faces Washington U. and Trine on March 17.
