CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team lost 86-82 to Division I Eastern Illinois University in an exhibition game at Lantz Arena in Charleston, Ill., on Thursday, Nov. 1.
 
Five Titans scored in double figures, led by 18 from sophomore Kendall Sosa, who was 5 of 6 from the field, made both 3-pointers and was 6 of 8 from the line.
Senior Nina Anderson and sophomore Raven Hughes each had 15 points while senior Ashley Schneider had 12 and junior Sydney Shanks scored 11.
 
Schneider had a game-high 10 rebounds as IWU had a 43-35 edge in boards over the Panthers.
 
IWU shot .459 from the field (28 of 61) and the Panthers shot at a .466 clip (34 of 73). Both teams were .364 from beyond the arc (8 of 22). The Titans connected on 18 of 22 free throws and EIU made 10 of 15.
 
The Panthers were led by the 22-point effort from Grace Lennox, who also handed out 11 assists and made six steals, while Grace McRae scored 18 and Karle Pace added 17 points.

Illinois Wesleyan plays another Division I opponent in an exhibition game on Monday, Nov. 5 at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at the Vadalabene Center with a 7 p.m. tipoff …The Cougars were 17-15 last year and lost to Central Arkansas 51-39 in the opening round of the Women's Basketball Invitational. Seniors Jay'Nee Alston and Sydney Bauman are the top returning scorers at 6.7 and 6.2 points per game, respectively. The 6-foot-3 Bauman also led the team with 7.1 rebounds per game … Illinois Wesleyan head coach Mia Smith, whose 20-year overall record is 389-163, earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in physical education from Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, where she was a four-year letterwinner in basketball and softball. She was the basketball team captain for three seasons and earned "Defensive Player of the Year" honors four times. She was named to the 1983 Dial Classic all-tournament team. A Dean's List student, she was an SIUE "Scholar-Athlete" and the school's "Sportsmanship Award" winner in 1986.
