Brady Rose equaled his career-high with 35 points and junior
Colin Bonnett scored a new career-best with 23 points as the Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team rallied for an 87-75 win over Elmhurst in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play on Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Shirk Center.
The Titans improved to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in the CCIW while the Bluejays fell to 9-4 overall and 2-2 in the league.
Rose connected on 10-of-17 from the field and made 10-of-11 free throws while Bonnett canned 8-of-12 from the floor and made five of his six 3-point tries.
In a game that had 14 lead changes and 10 ties, the Titans trailed 71-68 with 5:17 remaining before outscoring Elmhurst by a 19-4 margin down the stretch to seal the win. Rose had 13 of those 19 points with a 3-pointer to tie the game at 71-71 from Bonnett, two free throws by
Jason Gregoire and a
Jaylen Beasley free throw.
Beasley had 10 points and got a team-high seven boards as IWU outrebounded the Bluejays 33-32.
The first half featured eight lead changes and two ties and Illinois Wesleyan was able to separate to a seven-point lead at 32-25 with 3:48 to go and again at 38-31 with 1:12 left. But the Bluejays scored the final four points of the half to close to within three at 38-35 at intermission.
Jeremy Ireland scored 22 points and had a game-high eight rebounds with Justin Fox netting 11 and freshman Jake Rhode scoring 10 on only 3-of-12 shooting from the field.
