ELMHURST, Ill. – Five players scored in double figures as the No. 18-ranked Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team rolled to its seventh straight win with a 93-76 victory over Elmhurst College at R.A. Faganel Hall in Elmhurst on Wednesday, Jan. 24.
The Titans improved to 15-3 overall and 8-1 in the CCIW while the Bluejays fell to 11-7 overall and 4-5 in the league.
Illinois Wesleyan built up an 11-point lead in the first half, ahead 24-13 with 7:25 to play before Elmhurst went on a 27-12 binge to take a 40-36 lead into the locker room.
The Bluejays added to their advantage with an 8-4 jump in the early goings of the second half and led, 48-40, with 18:14 remaining. But the Titans scored the next 18 points to command a 58-48 lead at the 14:03 mark and had control the remainder of the game, allowing the Bluejays no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Illinois Wesleyan shot 55.6 percent (15 of 27) in the second half while limiting Elmhurst to 11 of 32 from the floor (34.4 percent). IWU also outrebounded Elmhurst 23-18 in the final period.
Brady Rose led the Titans with 20 points while sophomore
Zach Knobloch sank six 3-pointers and finished with 19 points. Junior
Jason Gregoire scored 17, senior
Jaylen Beasley had 13 and sophomore
Alex O'Neill added 10.
Beasley finished with a double-double, leading the Titans with 10 rebounds as the Titans outrebounded the Bluejays, 34-33. Rose had seven assists and freshman
Grant Wolfe added five of the Titans' 20 assists.
Derek Dotlich scored 18 to pace Elmhurst and Jeremy Ireland scored 16 points and collected a game-high 11 rebounds.
What's Next?
The Titans are at home on Saturday, Jan. 27 for a 7 p.m. game against North Park. It is the annual "Pink Zone" game to raise money and awareness for the local Cancer Community Center ... The Vikings are 4-12 overall and 1-7 in the CCIW after an 84-66 loss to Carroll on Wednesday.
